On 22 June St. Andrews Rotary Club presented awards to five young carers who do great work at a remarkably young age. Caring involves considerable time and energy and as a result time for normal childhood, friendships and school work can be severely restricted. It is this dedication that our club tries to acknowledge, and each young carer is given a sum of money to spend on themselves and given a day out doing something of their own choosing. This year our young carers chose such diverse outings as a day with horses at a stable, a ticket for a Dundee United football match and a visit to a music production studio. This year we welcomed and congratulated on their hard work Abbey & Hope, Matthew, Sabina, Kahra and Chelsea.

The Rotary Club chose Kyffin Roberts as Citizen of the Year for 2016. His early career saw him working on major engineering works which included the Mersey Tunnel, the Channel Tunnel and the Hunterston Ore Terminal. He then worked in Sri Lanka and Egypt. He then changed companies and worked in Manilla, Moscow, Sarajevo and Phnom Penh. Moscow was his favourite posting as the job came with the added bonus of membership of the Moscow Country Club which included a rather exclusive golf course.

Kyff retired to St.Andrews in 2006 and joined the Community Council in 2009. He immediately volunteered to run the popular summer bandstand concerts, a job he still does to this day. He was elected chairman of the Community Council in 2009 and immediately set about organising the Royal Wedding event which took the form of a Wedding Breakfast attended by some 2500 people. Recently he took on leadership of the Friends of Craigton Park with the aim of restoring the park to its former glory. Great work has been done already under his leadership and the future of the park is now assured although much remains to be done.

Kyff was presented with his framed certificate by our President Arthur Griffiths.
