We fund the RYLA course for four young people to attend each year, (Rotary Youth Leadership Association) at the Arethusa Naval Centre in Portsmouth. Twice a year, in April and October we send two young people on their excellent leadership course. Many of the students, given this opportunity, have come back to tell us about how it has improved their confidence in all areas.

Until this year we have helped to successfully organise Careers events at Claverham and Robertsbridge. From this year a local Careers Advisor has been funded. We do however still take part in the interview day at St Richard’s, for Year 10 pupils with Bexhill Rotary Club.

Our latest venture has been The Young Chef Competition; this is where local young people, aged 14 to 17 years, plan and cook a healthy two course  meal which is judged by experienced local judges notably Mr Webb from Webb’s restaurants. This year we won the District competition and reached the finals in London.

Mr David King has for many years ran a very successful Interact Club at St Mary’s Special School. They have their own committee and president, they meet every month at the school where fund raising events and a wide variety of activities are organised including the Christmas Love in a Box and a local beach clean. Interesting speakers are also invited in to attend meetings on a regular basis.
