Lunchtime Meeting - 12.45pm - Handover

Mon, Jul 4th 2016 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Club Handover and welcome to new member Justin Soper

At a recent meeting, the Rotary Club of Oswestry marked two special events.

Firstly, Mike Griffiths handed over the Club's Presidency to Ian Haigh for 2016-17.  Mike, who had enjoyed a terrific year as President, was congratulated by members of the Club for providing positive leadership throughout his tenure.  Mike welcomed Ian to the hot seat and, wishing him good luck for the year ahead, said "I hope you enjoy the role as much as I have."

Moving straight into his new job, Ian's first task as President was to welcome new Club member Justin Soper who was transferring to the Oswestry Club from Oswestry Cambrian. Justin, who has a formidable background in Education in North Wales, retired just over 2 years ago and is enjoying his retirement with his involvement in several local history groups. Justin shares his passion for history with his wife Sherie, President-Elect at Oswestry Borderland Rotary Club, and they are both involved with historical re-enactment societies. Always up for a challenge, Justin is particularly looking forward to the Rotary Club's next Rotaventure Zip-Wire experience!

If new President Ian looks vaguely familiar, he may have treated you in his dentist's chair? Trained and qualified in Newcastle, Ian settled into general practice and moved down to Shropshire in 1976. With surgeries in Oswestry and Welshpool, Ian, and his wife Pauline, brought up their family of three in Oswestry.  34 years on, in 2010 Ian retired joining Oswestry Rotary Club shortly thereafter.  Ian is looking forward to his year as President.
