A scenic Car Treasure Hunt

Tue, Jul 14th 2015 at 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Members, partners and friends participated wholeheartedly in what turned out to be a magnificent tour of local Fife.

Well, it was a pleasant summer's eve, but Greig Hill did not have the best viewpoint of the evening, in that he was there at 6pm in readiness to hand out the quiz sheets, to what in the event turned out to be six cars - Team Durkie/MacKay; Team Grieve/Farquharson; Team Pettigrew/ Blackden; Team Grant/Scott; Team Nicol; Team Todd - and once they had departed by 6:20ish, Greig set off back home, picked up his wife Anne who had helped him put the whole quiz together, and they returned to the Keavil, expecting to see the cars return at about 7:30/7:45pm, based on the fact that they had driven round the course in an hour and a quarter the previous night to check.

However, staring at each other and their watches for long and weary, that expected time past, the intended mealtime of 8pm then also passed, they had regular visits from the waiting staff, and latterly the chef wondering if there was anyone ever going to return to be fed!

Although Greig and Anne feared some might have got lost, the first car did eventually arrive back about 8:10ish, but even then there was not the expected steady return stream, and there was quite a gap before the last carload rucked up.

The reason for the delay may have had something to do with the route taking in some salubrious corners of Fife! - Rumblingwell, Baldridgeburn, Wellwood, Bowershall, Townhill, Kingseat, Kelty, Cowdenbeath, Crossgates, Inverkeithing, Port of Rosyth/Rosyth, Crossford. Many commented on the very pleasant Heritage Garden in Townhill that no-one knew of.

Once all eventually arrived back at base, all did then have a meal (much grumblings of the food standard/choices from some again). 11 members attended and with various partners and friends participating the numbers were 19, and after eats each team marked another's paper. With the bleating of 'unfair and 'I don't think that's the right answer' from the usual suspects, but - in a fairly tightly scored contest - Durkie/MacKay won the Tunnocks teacakes booby, Team Grant/Scott won the second place chocs, and our newest member Mark Todd with his wife Fiona and one of their sons had the top score, winning the wine and the car(s)! Congratulations to Team ‘New member’

Douglas Scott did the vote of thanks and made a few notes, so he would be better placed to say what participation was like rather than my organiser/scorer side of the fence.

Well done and many thanks  to Greig for his meticulous organisation and thanks to all who participated.
