Crook Hall Visit

Wed, Jun 17th 2015 at 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm

A very pleasant visit to Crook Hall in Durham

Mike Hirst had arranged for us to re-visit Crook Hall and have a conducted tour by the owner Maggie.  Fourteen members and wives met up on a lovely summer afternoon and had a most interesting talk from Maggie as she took us round the gardens and then the house.  She explained how they had developed the various garden areas, all of which looked wonderful, with the roses in full bloom.  The house has 3 different styles, having been extended at various periods.  There is a small modern extension that fits in perfectly with the older main building.  There is also said to be a ghost and Maggie looks to be performing that part in one of the photographs.

After being left to explore by ourselves, of us took advantage of the very enjoyable cream tea that was on offer.  The visit finished with a look in the recently shop, which has a cafe attached, in addition to the dining arrangements at the main house. Altogether  a most enjoyable afternoon.
