Club Meeting 1pm - No speaker

Tue, Jul 21st 2015 at 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

President Lesley Kennedy welcomed twelve other members, and Graham Smith reported on a visit to the 56-strong Rotary Club of Rutland City in Vermont, USA.

He said that the club met on the first floor of an Italian restaurant in the city centre, with members and visitors welcomed by a Sergeant-at-Arms with a radio mic. A buffet lunch followed, and the president spoke from a pulpit with the lecturn on top.

Members — of a mixed ages and including a number of ladies — sang a song to the visitors, and this was followed by a 'boasting session' when members put a dollar in a jar for Rotary Foundation before telling of their triumphs in the previous week. This was followed by a prize draw in which large sums could be won, also in aid of Foundation.

"It was quite an experience!" said Graham, before presenting a Rutland City club banner to the president.

Our club's more humble weekly raffle for a whisky miniature, currently Deanston, was drawn by Douglas Dow and won by Alastair Wilson.
