President Mairhi Trickett welcomed members and their regular visitor Harald Willner from Kingston-upon-Thames Rotary Club to last week's meeting.  Past President Scott Elliot, who stood in for the speaker who had to call off at the last minute, took members off reminiscing on a holiday, not to sunny climes but to the frozen Arctic instead, on a cruise ship.  He sailed from Rosyth on the MV Boudicca which carried 800 passengers and 360 crew recruited from 30 different nationalities.  The sailed via the Norwegian western seaboard then north to the North Cape, the most northerly point in Europe.  He described the many sights and attractions to be seen and enjoyed both ashore and on-board not to mention the cuisine and entertainment.  They experienced 5 days of total daylight which took some getting used to but likewise, in winter months, they experience total night darkness and, this indeed, has led Norway to suffer the highest suicide rate in Europe.  Many questions arose after which President Mairhi gave the vote of thanks and said Scott had proved to be an able deputy.
Last Saturday night's film night raised £310 which is being passed to the Borders Talking Newspaper in which several Rotarians volunteer their services weekly as readers and recorders.
