Liz Froud gave us an understanding of the work of Julia’s House which is the only children’s hospice charity in Dorset dedicated to helping life-limited children and their families.
Julia's House offers regular respite sessions at our hospice and/or at the family’s own home and they also run events for siblings, mums and dads - supporting the whole family.
Their respite care takes some of the strain from parents who may be looking after a very sick child 24 hours a day. It gives them time out with their partners or with their other children. It could be simply a chance to catch up with some day-to-day tasks, safe in the knowledge their child is being looked after by people they know and trust.
The nurses and carers are available all year-round and, when the worst happens, they can offer emotional and practical support at the end of a child’s life.
The charity is now aiming to establish another children’s hospice in Devizes, Wiltshire. Their target is to complete it in the autumn of 2017.
