Members and guests of the Club visited the Scottish Lime Centre Trust on 7 July. It's on the doorstep, it is Nationally and Internationally acclaimed and is in Charlestown. Our very own Charlestown Lime which was favoured by Architects and Builders alike in the 18th and 19th centuries. This and an amazing number of facts never associated with lime were conveyed during a fascinating and illuminating presentation by Director Roz Artis during the visit. In the past, lime was considered to be a simple building material and soil additive to reduce acidity and clay - but no - 'just five minutes with Roz ensures you will view traditional stone and lime walls in a very different way'. Her passion and knowledge on the restoration of everything from castles to cottages and bridges to lighthouses is akin to a personalised TV documentary and the Centre is highly recommended for a visit.
