Paul Harris Fellow - Alastair Durkie
"‹Alastair Durkie was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship at the 2015 Charter Dinner
Alastair Durkie joined the club as a founder member in 1979. At that time he was a Senior Bank Administrator. It is worth noting that he is still proud of his vocation, despite all the recent bad press concerning bankers.
Having retired from banking Alastair took up a role as a Financial Advisor. Many of the members of the club will have used his advice in regard for pensions and long term care insurance. The club has also regularly benefited from his wisdom.
Since finally retiring Alastair has devoted his energies to Family, Rotary and Golf. Over the years he has made a huge contribution to all the avenues of Rotary service and has also reduced his golf handicap to a competitive level. Alastair served for many years as a keen member of the Community Committee and later the Foundation and International Committee.
Alastair has always helped with the financial aspects of the club. For the last 5 years as treasurer he has established a rational process for managing the new regulatory requirements for our charity accounts. He has steered the club securely though difficult economic times and with the help of our late friend Alex Imrie has obtained large contributions of Gift Aid from HMRC.
Alastair - The club is very grateful for all the work you have done for us over the years. President Ewan Archibald had great pleasure in presenting Alastair with our greatest honour, that of a Paul Harris Fellowship.
