6th June 2015 - D Day for Penicuik. Three events in one day.
Three events in one day.
The club was so busy on this day and so short handed that things had to be planned almost with the same precision as the original D Day 71 years earlier. Some members almost but not quite managed to be in two places at once!
Firstly there was a 'Know your blood pressure day' in the local Tesco store between 10:00 and 12:00. Publicity Officer Reg Dunbar set this up at 9.40 and once David Gillespie and Jean Lennie arrived, he took a few photos of them with the first 'customer' before setting off on his next 'mission'.
He arrived at Beeslack High School at 10:20 where he met with members of the Loanhead and Roslin Club. Two more members of the Penicuik club soon arrived. Members of both clubs were to work together between 12:00 and 16:00 helping out at the 30th Anniversary Celebrations of Beeslack High School.
Following a briefing from the organiser of the event, this involved controlling vehicle access to the school grounds, directing drivers to a car park almost a mile away (not a very pleasant task), directing traffic within the school grounds and controlling access and exit to the restricted car park. The opportunity was also taken by The Rotary Club of Penicuik and The Rotary Club of Loanhead and Roslin to set up an impressive joint Rotary display. This included a Shelter Box and a publicity board showing the various ways that Rotary works to make the world a better place.
Meantime, back at theTesco store, Jean Lennie was soon joined by more Rotarians, Colin Hiunter, Ian Somerville and Bill Stewart. So, shortly before 11:00 she was able to set off to get ready for a trip to Carluke to attend the District Final of the Primary School Quiz where the club was to be represented by Roslin Primary School.
Jean and fellow Rotarian IaIn Steven arrived in Carluke in ample time for the quiz which was due to start at 12:30. There they met with the teachers, parents and the quiz team members from Roslin Primary School.
