The club meeting on Tuesday featured a fine talk on the 'History of Crossford Part 3' by Robin Sharp.
Robin provided another enthusiastic and informative talk, making reference to the Five Mills of the Lyneburn. We enjoyed a short history on Pitliver House, where documentation dates back to the12th century. The Wellwood family had a long association with Pitliver House for some 200 years.
Robin's talk also included a short history on Keavil House dating from 1496 until the present. Keavil House has had some form of residence over its long history - including being leased to the Admiralty during World War One 1914 - 1918. Other uses include the Martha Frew Childrens Home. From 1980 until 1992 Hamish Wright made it into a hotel, and from 1992 Best Western Hotels acquired the hotel and are still the current owners.
The talk included interesting historical facts on Pitfirrane House, through its various stages of development - probably going back to the15th century. It was in 1583 when George Halkett of the Halkett/Wedderburn dynasty renovated Pitfirrane House. Following the death of Madeline Halkett in 1951 Dunfermline Golf Club bought the Pitfirrane estate in conjuction with the Carnegie Trust, and the present golf course opened in 1953.
