The club meeting on Tuesday was an outing to visit the Aircraft Carrier Queen Elizabeth at Rosyth Dockyard. We enjoyed fine hospitality and were well looked after by host Sean Donaldson and staff.

From the visitor centre we had a great view of this fine 65000 tonne ship.

The talk was provided by the Captain of the Queen Elizabeth and two Senior officers of the Royal Navy. Their talk focussed on their roles, and the many aspects of the carrier, including capability, systems, crew facilities, and communications.

Fitting - out of the Royal Navy's biggest ever ship continues, with sea trials due to begin in 2017 and should be in service by around 2020. The primary use will be transporting F-35 Lightning Fighter Jets.

The fitting out of the vessel is progressing very well, and the ships company are actively learning all about her. Once in use the ship will employ fewer than 700.

Sean has kindly invited us back at a future date with a view to us going on board the Queen Elizabeth - Something to really to look forward to.
