Stirling Rotary Club Assembly June 4th. 2015
President David Paterson welcomed members to the annual Club Assembly, which took place on the evening of June 4th, at the Golden Lion hotel. There were no visitors. Members approved a council recommendation to offer funding to CHAS, the children’s hospice charity and to Milton Football Club. President David and the conveners commented on the year gone by and the latter outlined their plans for 2015/2016.
Incoming president Peter Mehta recited a poem he had written about the conveners and their committees, and this was well received. He went on to describe his vision for the future, which he classified under three headings: Continue to play our part in contributing to the community; Grow our membership; Attract younger members.
Earlier, over the long weekend of 29th. to 31st. May, the club held one of its major fund raising events at Gardening Scotland, principally in aid of Scottish Charity Air Ambulance based at Scone. A substantial 4-figure sum was raised, representing a considerable achievement, as the weather conditions over the period were wet, windy and cold. Highlight of the weekend’s fundraising was the annual visit to the Stirling Rotary stand of Beechgrove Garden’s Jim McColl, who tried his hand at winning the star prize, a meal for two at Gleneagles Hotel. Heartfelt thanks go to Gleneagles Hotel, Blair Drummond Safari Park and Briarlands Farm for their prize donations and to all Rotarians and partners for their help under adverse conditions.
This week’s Speakers Host is Alan Bradshaw, with Visitors Host Sandy Morrison. More information and news about the club can be found on our website www.stirling.rotary1010.org.
