Annual Pancake Festival
The Festival is organised to provide entertainment for the people of Hitchin and to raise funds for Garden House Hospice Care and for other Rotary charities. The 2018 Festival takes place on Tuesday 13 February
We will take over Hitchin Marketplace with stalls selling pancakes, mulled wine and bacon rolls; a bric-a-brac stall, tombola, "guess the number of corks" competition, recorded music and his usual entertaining commentary from Paul Mailes of After Dark PA; bouncy castle; kiddies' corner; skittles; local crafts and much more.
The Pancake Races will again be run
in the grounds of St. Mary's church.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds for charity, principally Garden House Hospice Care, but also for other Rotary charities. However all money raised from the Pancake Races will go to the hospice.
The hospice needs at raise about £250 per hour to maintain its services. You can be directly involved by entering the races and thus play a real part in supporting the hospice. There is an entry fee of £10 per runner, returnable on request if sponsorship you raise is more that £40. The main thrust of the fundraising is through runners being sponsored - by friends, family, workmates employers, neighbours - anyone - and although there is no minimum sponsorship requirement we do hope that all race entrants will make the effort ro raise as much as they can. See if you could raise enough to support the hospice for and hour, or even just a good part of that hour.
There will be ladies', gentlemen's and fancy dress races, with a trophy for the winner of each racr, prizes for first and second plae, certificates for every runner and two prizes for best fancy dress.
If you would like to enter the races (you must be aged 18 or over), please send your name, address, telephone number and/or email address with your entry fee - cheque payable to Hitchin Priory Rotary Club or cash - to the organizer:
Mike Mackenzie, 108 Whitehill Road, Hitchin, SG4 9HS
stating whether you wish to enter the ladies' , Gentlemen's or fancy dress race.
