Presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship to PP Bob Buchan

President Brian opened the meeting by welcoming our 2 guests Michael Ball from Balwearie High School who is our clubs finalist for Rotary’s Young Musician, the final takes place this Saturday in Perth, the club wished Michael all the best.  The clubs other guest was Mark Garland of Borland Insurance in Kirkcaldy and it looks like Mark might be one of our newest members, very soon.

President Brian and Past President BobThe normal business was attended to and President Brian announced to the club how honoured he was to present a Paul Harris Fellowship Award to a very worthy Rotarian.  The presentation of a Paul Harris fellow recognition is Rotary’s way of expressing its appreciation for an individuals’ contribution and efforts sustaining all programmes that our club undertake, it is named after our Founder Paul Harris, the Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with 3 business associates in 1905.  Today Bob Buchan becomes a Paul Harris Fellow, Bob has been a member of Kirkcaldy since 1988 some 27 years.  It is a reflection of the commitment that Bob has made to our club in helping provide a better life for people within the community and further afield in the world some of whom he may never meet.  This is a truly selfless action.  It is because of Bob’s efforts like other Rotarians that our club is able to carry out an array of programmes that achieve beneficial changes in our community and beyond for others less fortunate.  In becoming a Paul Harris Fellow Bob joins a remarkable company of persons in the history of our own club and Rotarian’s throughout the world, all recognised for their devotion to the ideal of goodwill, understanding and others above self.  It is a goal of Rotarian’s the world over and one that Bob clearly shares.  Bob was presented with the 2 emblems of appreciation given to Paul Harris Fellows, the certificate and pin.  President Brian asked his fellow Rotarian’s to join him in congratulating Bob and thank him for his commitment to the ideals of Rotary, ‘service above self’.   Bob then expressed his gratitude to his fellow Rotarians and accepted the award in his usual modest manner.

The meeting was closed and we look forward to next week when John Murray from Kirkcaldy FM and one of the former founders of Kingdom FM gives us a talk on how he started the radio station.
