The speaker was Sally Heron MBE. She told us she was really wearing two hats this evening; one as a member of the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society and the other as a guide with the Botanic Gardens.

The garden was formed in the 17th century and had various homes before moving to its present site at Inverleith in the 1820s. There are now three satellite gardens: Benmore, Dawyck and Logan. Guided tours of them all are available.

There is a great deal to see in the garden. At present there is a very good display of spring plants in the Alpine House.

A considerable amount of construction is being carried out at the moment including the building of an education centre.

Yew trees are being planted round the edges of the garden in place of the holly.

Sally showed a number of photographs of various aspects of the garden.

A vote of thanks was given by Walter Hallyburton.
