Our Merry Christmas Party for Overseas Students
Wed 17th December 2014
The Club show Overseas Students not going home How to Celebrate Christmas.
President Andrew Aitken welcomed members, families and students to the annual Christmas Lunch.
Always a very special and popular meeting when the normal Rotary Club order goes out of the window. Students from India, Equador, Russia, Pakistan, China etc. are warmly entertained to lunch and invited to join in the general hilarity of the event.
Trumpets sounded, crackers were pulled, and balloons whizzed round the room throughout the lunch.
Jimmy Spankie interviewed each student and invited them to give their names, country and faculty as well as any additional comments. They all seemed to be enjoying their time in St Andrews though some did find the weather rather different from home.
After the meal Ann Baird led the company in singing the twelve days of Christmas which involved a lot of leaping up and down to everyones amusement.
Fiona Barnard gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the students who will be spending Christmas in St Andrews rather than going home to their own countries but the lunch gave them a taste of how Scottish Rotarians celebrate Christmas.
