Rotary Club of Rochdale East Charity Folk Concert

CHARITY FOLK CONCERT

The Club held a charity folk night at Rochdale Cricket Club on 6th February 2015.  The event was organised by club member, Rotarian Ian Smith who is also a member of the opening group on the evening Hindle Wakes.

Hindle Wakes, a folk group consisting of Ian Smith, John Gill and Tom Hindley have previously performed for us at our charity events and we are again grateful for their services on this evening.

Another performer making a return visit was Dialect Poet Sally James. Sally is a Lancashire Poet who writes many of her poems in the indigenous dialect and idioms of Lancashire. Sally is also a very fine poet writing in Standard English and we were delighted to see Sally back performing for us again at our charity event.

Next up was That's All Folk - Rochdale Music Service Folk Group. With such a large number of members of the group the stage was a little full to say the least but the performance was excellent and delighted the packed audience. An example of That's All Folk 's work can be seen on this youtube link.

The final act of the evening was Becket who made their first appearance at one of our charity events.

We are extremely grateful to all of the acts who performed for us on the evening who as well as making it a thoroughly entertaining evening, also gave their services free of charge.

The monies raised from the event will be donated to Rotary International Charities. Previous events held have seen us provide a Shelterbox which was used in The Phillippines following the terrible floods there and wheelchairs to Namibia via the Rotary GB&I Wheelchair Foundation.

Finally, huge congratulations should go to Rotarian Ian Smith for organising another hugely successful event.
