The birth of our National Bard Robert Burns was recently celebrated by the Rotary Club of Thornhill and District with a supper held in Thornhill Bowling Club.
Over sixty Rotarians and friends gathered for a most enjoyable evening  with an excellent banket prepared and served by bowling club members, followed by a programme of sang and clatter.
The Immortal Memory of the bard this year was delivered by celebrated Ayrshire Burns man Bobby McCroskie. In a most informative presentation Bobby traced the life of the Bard and highlighted those people and places which most influenced his poetry. A very entertaining Toast to the Lassies was provided by Graeme McLatchie from New Cumnock.
Offering the toast to the Haggis was Hugh McHarg who later recited Burns favourite The Twa Dugs, followed by tale of the death of Burns only pet ewe ....Poor Maille.
Musical entertainment was provided by local piano accordionist Billy Telfer, while Willie Prentice once again expertly piped in the Haggis. Rotarian Brian Lord led the company in the Star o Rabbie Burns a task which he has undertaken annually for close on forty years.
Chair for the evening was Rotarian and Sanquhar businessman Frank Williamson who kept the evening on track while at the same time relating amusing tales poking fun at individuals within his audience. The evening concluded with the vote of thanks from Rotary President Derek Clark.
