David told us of his early years in Preston - and of his first day at school. When it came to the morning break he decided it was time to go home - that was the end of school for David! "I never did like school, anyway!"
He went on to say that he never had any intention of teaching as a career, but somehow ended up at the Northumberland College of Education where he met Gwen, his wife to be. After a number of teaching positions David was appointed to the headship of a primary school in Consett where he remained for 24 years, achieving significant success.
Significantly, David told us that he contracted Polio when he was six. Thankfully he made a more or less full recovery and telling us of his experience reminds us of his Walk to End Polio last October - an event which raised over £1000 towards Rotary's campaign to end Polio.
