Dr Peter T. Hughes - The Robert Burns World Federation

Thu, Mar 12th 2015 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Dr. Peter T Hughes, Senior Vice President of The Burns World Federation will talk about the work of the Federation. Founded in 1855, and based in Kilmarnock it is one of the oldest national literary associations in Scotland.

Dr. Peter T Hughes, Senior Vice President of the Burns World Federation

Unfortunately Alison Tait, the Chief Executive of the Federation is unable to be with us on Thursday evening. However we have an exceptional substitute in Dr. Peter T. Hughes who is Senior Vice President of the Federation.

Dr. Hughes has had a remarkably high profile industrial career in engineering and steel and was awarded an OBE for his services to the UK Steel Industry in 1993. Engineering is still very much in his blood and he is currently Chairman of the Primary Engineer Programmes Advisory Board taking engineering to Primary Schools throughout the UK. This is but a snippet of his extensive c.v.

He is a keen sportsman playing tennis, golf and curling. He is also a keen musician and a very popular After Dinner Speaker at events all over the UK with a particular interest in Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns. In addition to his position in the Federation he is a member of the Allanton Jolly Beggars Burns Club and a former Director of the Bridgeton Burns Club. We very much look forward to his talk.

The main objectives of The Robert Burns World Federation Limited are to advance the education of the public, without the distinction of sex, political or religious opinions, about the life, poetry and works of Robert Burns and in furtherance thereof:

To encourage and arrange competitions among the general public, students and/or school children.

To stimulate the development, teaching and study of Scottish literature, art, music and language.

To conserve buildings and places associated with Robert Burns and his contemporaries.

To strengthen the bond of fellowship amongst members of Burns Clubs and kindred societies throughout the world by encouraging Burns Clubs and kindred societies to honour the memory of Robert Burns and his works.
