The Mercy Ships Programme - Dr. John Rhodes

...

Doctor Rhodes, assisted by his wife, gave us an excellent presentation on the work of this charity. He thanked us for the donations we made a few years ago (perhaps it's time for us make further donations?) and went on to explain the significance of the use of a ship as a mobile hospital.  Their only ship - the Africa Mercy - was rebuilt from it's previous role as a train ferry in Scandinavia. He explained that all the staff and crew are volunteers - and even have to pay their way!

As it happens, we saw the Africa Mercy being rebuilt on the Tyne when we enjoyed a trip down the river back in July 2006.
