Walking weekend based in Cirencester


A walking weekend in the Cotswolds

 We arrived at the Four Pillars Hotel, set on the edge of the Cotswold Water Park, where incidentally there is more water than the Norfolk Boards.. We were joined in the evening by Bill and Jane Irving from the Cirencester Ramblers club, who had offered to take us on guided walks, for them to outline their programme.

 I awoke Saturday morning at 6 and peered through a crack in the curtains, magic, the sky was blue with no clouds and very light winds - just what was needed for our morning walk. After a very good breakfast we drove over to Bibury to meet Bill and Jane. Our walking party numbered 20. We set off on our circular walk of Bibury, with Jane leading and Bill at the rear. Bibury is set in a shallow valley and we walked around the top looking down on the River Coln. At what would have been described as a Kodak moment looking down into the valley Mark was heard to utter

In June 2022 our club was a hundred years old. In celebration of this the club initiated a centenary project in conjunction with Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to upgrade a section of the Great Central Way in Rugby.
