Welcome

Most people have heard of Rotary, but exactly what it is, what it does and why remains a mystery to many people.

The real aim of Rotary is not self-gratification, but Service Above Self, and this is a commitment made by every one of the 1.2 million Rotarians around the world.  Rotary clubs are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races and creeds.  We have no secret ceremonies or complex joining processes.  We just ask ouselves four simple questions about what we think, say and do:

  • Is it the truth?/
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Rotary is an international organisation and pledges itself to hundreds of projects around the world.  One of our major long-term objectives is the eradication of polio worldwide (and we are nearly there).  All of the funds that we raise are free of administration costs and go directly to those who need them.

The Burnham-on-Sea Rotary Club is one of 34,000 clubs across the world and we share the pleasure of doing things because we want to and Rotary gives us the chance to make a difference by using our talents to the full. What's more, as Rotary members we benefit from being part of a large, internationally trusted organisation committed to ensuring that our work in helping local and overseas communities is well organised, productive and rewarding.
