11 December 2014 Visit by District 1010 Governor, Keith Hopkins

Thu, Dec 11th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

District Governor Keith Hopkins visits the Club for his visit and presents John Kilby with his Paul Harris Fellowship

President Peter Farr welcomed Members and guests to the meeting on Thursday evening.  The speaker for the evening was to be Rotary District Governor Keith Hopkins who was accompanied by his wife Mary.

Before the meal Keith presented Club Member and Chairman of the Community Committee  John Kilby with a Quaich awarded by the district for outstanding community activities, including Duck Race, Fling and Winter Treat.  He then went on to award John with the highest award in Rotary; a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of John's personal contribution to Rotary, the Club were delighted by this award and congratulated John who had been taken aback by the award and was almost short of a few words.

Keith gave a lively presentation on the flexibility within the modern Rotary Club which must be willing to change to suit the community to allow the objects of Rotary to be met, ensuring that all Members are fulfilled by the parts they play in the Club and that new Members are facilitated.  This can mean morning, lunchtime, evening meetings, with or without a meal all pulled together by a successful Club.  Fellowship is a major part of Rotary life and Keith reminded Members of the various fellowships that are run throughout the district and beyond, Golf, Curling, Sailing, Stamp Collecting, Singing and Music.

Stuart Brown proposed a well -deserved vote of thanks.
