The Rotary Club of Ellesmere organised a Stroke Awareness Day on Saturday 26th April 2014
The Rotary Club of Ellesmere organised a Stroke Awareness Day on Saturday 26th April at the Tesco store in the town, as a part of a major drive by Rotary Clubs in the region to promote preventative health measures. A hardworking team of medical volunteers took blood pressure readings and gave out further advice and information to members of the public. Volunteers included Dr Sheelin Newton of the Ellesmere Medical Practice, Mr Ian Williams of First Responders, plus Karen Gee, Philip Hillan and Vickki Jones from Rowlands Pharmacy, along with their mascot, Rowlands Owl (aka Tracy Jones). Also in attendance was George Morgan with his fairground organ, Ruby, who independently raised over 100 for the British Heart Foundation.
The team took ninety-three individual readings, with twenty-six advised to make a routine appointment with their GP, whilst it was recommended to six people that they see their doctor within the following week. Ellesmere Rotary Club is very grateful for the support given to this event by local Tescos manager, Steve Neeson, and all the dedicated volunteers that made the day such a success.
