25 May 2014 Judy Murray Tennis Competition

Sun, May 25th 2014 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

The annual Judy Murray Tennis Competition in aid of Rachel House took place at Dunblane Sports Club.

The 4th annual Judy Murray Junior Tennis Cups event was played on Sunday 25 May sponsored jointly by the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane and Dunblane Sports Club. The event was targeted at 5-10 year olds with little or no tennis competition experience using the 'Fun Mini Red' format.

A record entry of 76 children, including one from Aberdeen, accompanied by parents and friends, enjoyed an afternoon of matches played with great enthusiasm despite some heavy rain showers.

Judy Murray was constantly on court encouraging the competitors and offering coaching tips as well as playing a final game with each of the semi-finalists in front of a packed club house. Judy presented all children with a certificate and goody bag before awarding the winners their prizes.  The Mini Cup for 5-7 years old was won by Isaac King and the Junior Cup for 8-10 years old was won by Grant Lewis. Both winners were presented with a tennis racquet signed by Andy, Jamie and Judy Murray. The prize for raising the greatest sponsorship amount was a tennis lesson from Judy Murray and was won by Matthew Irvine, who raised a magnificent £150.

Entry to the competition was by sponsorship with over £2000 raised by the competitors. The funds will be split equally between Dunblane Sports Club and Rachel House (CHAS). Big thanks to Fiona Bennie of Dunblane Sports Club for coordinating the tennis, to Sports Club members and helpers for the catering and, of course, to Judy Murray for making the day such a success.
