Wed, Apr 22nd 2015 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Lindsay will be District 1020 Governor in 2017/2018 and has 'recruited' Hendrik as his Conference Convener. The planning process started in early December 2014 with the first meeting of the seven person Steering Group.

Hendrik and Lindsay set out the planning arrangements for Lindsay's year as District Governor in 2017-18 and notably for the District Conference on the weekend of Friday 27 to Sunday 29 October 2017.

The Steering Group is in place and comprises:

Hendrik as Conference Convenor

John Wilson as Deputy Convenor

Ian Greig as Secretary

Doug Marr as Treasurer

Allan Maclaughlan as Sergeant-at-Arms

Andrew Clark as IT Manager

and of course Lindsay as DG.

The venue front runner is the Civic Centre at Newcastle. A decision will be taken by July. It is thought the costs to members will be in the range £330-£470 including a registration fee of about £45 and the Governor's Ball around £40. There should be a range of hotel prices. As in the past a savings scheme is proposed to start from July 2015 for those who wish to take advantage of it.

The Conference programme will be as follows:

Friday evening dinner and entertainment

Saturday and Sunday mornings (9.30-1pm approx) business meetings with speakers to include a keynote speaker on each day. It is hoped Ann Gloag will be one of the keynote speakers.

Saturday evening the District Governor's dinner and ball.

The Steering Group will be looking for volunteers to take on the following responsibilities:

Registration and dining arrangements

Programming entertainment and transport arrangements

Managing House of Friendship with facilities for clubs, charities etc

Managing activities such as sports and partners' events

Host Club liaison

From September 2015 there will be submissions to District Council with formal presentation in September 2016.

The Club will be responsible for organising the District Hand-over in June 2017 and from July to December 2017 DG Lindsay will be visiting all 60 clubs in the District. He hopes members will accompany him and act as drivers. Lindsay stresses that 2017-18 will be the Club's year not just Lindsay Craig's.

It was confirmed that there would be a District Grant of £10,000 to meet costs.
