Speaker Andrew Jackson CASH Leslie Roger RECEPTION Stephen Fernie

Thu, Aug 28th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Colin Johnston talking on The Freedom Lands of Aberdeen and their March Stones.

I was a Secondary teacher for 34 years, mostly in Aberdeen City.  I started teaching History at the Grammar School, then moved on to Bridge of Don Academy in the late 1970s.  I spent a short time at Kemnay Academy before my final move to Hazlehead Academy as Head of the History Department.  Though I retired from teaching in 2006,I still give talks to schools on aspects of the Great War.

I attended Aberdeen University, taking an Honours Degree in History.  My senior school education was at Robert Gordon's College, having had my Primary grounding at Mile End and Maud Primary Schools.

My great passions are playing or watching sport, studying Local History and travelling to the Western Front, which I have done, on and off, since 1981.  I also 'guide' groups (mostly) of  pupils on tours of Flanders Fields from schools such as Harlaw, Hazlehead, Oldmachar and Kemnay Academies.
