Jim Dick - Vocational Talk

Tue, Jul 15th 2008 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Treasurer Robin Grant reminded members that subscriptions were now due.  PP Ken Mackay advised members of a special offer at Ryanair (£75.66 per couple) that anyone considering going on the Club's weekend to Bergamo (Milan Orio al Serio) might want to take advantage of.

Newest member, Jim Dick gave his vocational talk - it was both informative and entertaining. Jim attended Primary School at Milton of Balgonie, Buckhaven High School and Schumacher High School Ontario. He joined Fife Constabulary and started service in Dunfermline before moving on to Methil. Jim joined the Probationary Service in Edinburgh and then moved to Elgin as a Social Worker.

Posts in Selkirk, Newton St Boswells and Banff & Buchan precluded his appointment as Senior Deputy Director of Social Work for Highlands Council based in Inverness. He retired in 1999 having risen to position of Director and having been presented with an OBE for his services to voluntary organisations and people with learning difficulties.

Jim is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Loch Ness and during his year in office spawned the Inverness Riverside Breakfast Club. He is an honorary member of the Loch Ness Club.
