Rotary Club of Stirling meeting of 20/3/15
President David Paterson welcomed members and visitor, soon to be member, Jeremy Fox to the meeting.
With Easter approaching, the start of the Summer growing season, and the change of rail franchise on 1/4/15, Sandy Leven is particularly keen to have our planting at Stirling station in good condition. He needs as many members as possible to help over the next few weeks.
David welcomed Stewart Wilson back from his sponsored cycle trip to New Zealand. During the trip he covered 2000 miles, raising 730.
Alan Rankin reminded members of our charity film night at the MacRobert on 31/3/15.
We were pleased to welcome a new member Jeremy Fox to the club. He was introduced by SVP Peter Mehta. Jeremy was born in Falmouth. After studying modern languages at Cambridge, he taught for some years ,followed by a career change, and a move to France where he ran a leather work business for 20 years. During this time he became a Rotarian. Now retired, he teaches at the Stirling language school ,plays the flute and sings in the university choir.
President David used the remainder of the meeting for an open discussion on how members thought the club was running. A variety of topics was raised and opinions usefully exchanged. We have also recently received a questionnaire from Rotary GB&I seeking our views on a similar range of topics, both at club and national level. SVP Peter encouraged to us to respond to this.
Next week Speaker's host Alan Skilling, Visitors host Allan Cheetam.
