Swindon v Marlborough & District - 26 Nov 2013
Once again I find myself having to apologise for not being present today to deliver this report but I am still recovering from the shock of a most emphatic win against Marlborough and District so decided to take myself off to the Good Food Show to recover.
Having to deal with two late withdrawals from the team I was very pleased to be able to field a full 8 players and my thanks particularly to Ray and Jan for coming to my rescue. I would also like to thank Chris and Linda for their support on the night.
The pre match pep talk, and drink, from President Peter certainly worked a treat and after Round 1, we were leading by 7 skittles. Round 2 was drawn and by the end of round 6, we had stretched our lead to 20 skittles.
However, it was now time for the food break and we all knew that the last two rounds could see our demise as we have seen on too many past occasions. Alas, despite our Presidents efforts to distract our players by stepping across the alley we continued our rich vein of form and after round 6 we had stretched our lead to 21.
So, the final round was upon us and after a slow start we maintained the momentum of the earlier rounds and unbelievably won the round by 14 skittles and the match by a massive 35 skittles.
Well done to Jan Blankenstein who top scored on the night with 45 and to Richard Deacon for overcoming the defeat in our last match with a score of 43. But, to be fair, no one bowled badly, it was a great team performance and we shared some good fellowship with Marlborough and District on the night.
We now have a well deserved rest until the New Year when we shall play our final two league matches on 15th and 22nd January at the White Hart, Wroughton.
I will be in touch over the next few weeks to request availability so that team selection can be made.
