The Kaptai Dm (Paid for by The USA) flooded a river valley and its tributaries for about 50kms. The dam is about 25km south from Rangamati, where our interest lies.The water flooded Rangamati. The reservoir runs on a north south axis with the inhabitants of the old town settling, ribbon like,on the west bank with access to the roads west. But it leaves the those in the villages on the east side cut off by the water.
The town ferries on the west bank are reluctant to go to the other side. About two years ago we promised to try to find a solution for the east bank villages to access the school, market and work.
This year(2013) Memory and the local monk found a tribal young man who is supporting his mother and grand mother. he has an interest in boats and carpentry but can only get work as a labourer.
So, hopefully we have a solution. As a tribal boy he has a loyalty to the local communities and will earn more tha
