We have been supporting a widow with two boys for sometime. This year (2013) Clinton, the eldest,
has left school and has been helping out with a rickshaw. He could not get a bank loan to buy one and paying back microcredit loans with high rates and backhandesd is crippling for poor people. So we lent him the money. He lives about 4km outside town so has a ready market for customres to take into town in the morning and brin back in the evening. He is also able to support his mother with a home catering business.
So th family and the community are better of in a sustainable way. He is already paying back the loan and his mother says he is looking after it as if it was his baby.
Picture shows Clinton taking delivery of a new motorised Rickshaw.
(Second from the left is Memory, the mother, with younger son Ekin in front with green shirt and hat. Behind him is big brother Clinton taking delivery of thenew motortized rickshaw. All in their best clothes for the picture.
