Visit to the Swanage Water Treatment Works

Wed, Nov 27th 2013 at 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Facinating visit around Swanage Treatment Works in the morning with lunch for all at Swanage Sailing Club.

Great of Wessex Water to host a visit to see their treatment plant in action. A very impressve highly automated plant that processes sewage from Swanage and the surrounding areas. Several people commented it was "like the Tardis" when we went in as the facility was much bigger that you would suspect from the outside. Really appreciated how advanced the process was which incorporated:

  • Largest submerged membrane bioreactor plant of its type in the world
  • Designed to treat effluent from a summer population of 28,000
  • An Environmentally sensitive area located in a picturesque bay, with nearby bathing beach
  • Achieved a 2003 Civic Trust Award, presented by HRH The Prince of Wales in respect of a project that has reached the highest standard in terms of both architectural design and contribution to the environment.
