COME AND JOIN US...

This taster sets out  to give a broad outline of the activities of The Rotary Club of Oldham its aims and achievements.  Founded in 1929 the need for its involvment within the local and international community is proving to be more important than ever.

You can also learn how to become involved in this group of committed local men and women who are prepared to devote some of their time helping those who need assistance, whilst at the same enjoying good food and fellowship with like minded people.

Rotary is short for Rotary International, a world-wide association  of 35,000 individual clubs, and more than 1,212,000 members across the globe pledged to:-

Serve the community Lacally, Nationally and Internationally.

Encourage High Ethical Standards.

Work for International Peace and Goodwill.

In the United Kingdom alone 59,000 members serve in 1,800 clubs, five of which are located within the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham.

Because it is an international organisation, Rotarians are always welcome at every Rotary meeting anywhere in the world.

The Rotary Club of Oldham is a group of local residents with a common aim of having fun, enjoying themselves whilst helping the community.  Luncheon meetings are held weekly at our headquarters - Hotel Smokies Park - Ashton Road - Oldham - OL8  3HX - Each meeting lasts around two hours.

Whilst it is not essential that members attend every meeting, regular participation helps to build worthwhile friendships.  It is however important that you support our aims and give input to our projects.

The selected projects and fundraising events of the Oldham Rotary Club, as with all other Rotary Clubs are aimed at serving the community in a positive way, either at home or overseas.

Without exception these activities are not just about improving lives, they also provide enjoyment, relaxation and satisfaction to  the participating Rotarians.

      ENJOYMENT    You are involve3d with a team of like-minded friends.

      RELAXATION   It represents a break from the onerous demands of modern day living.

     Satisfaction      The end result helps to improve our communities.

CURRENT PROJECTS AND FUNDRAISING

  HEARTSTART                         Training people in Emergency Life Support skills.

  KIDS OUT                                 Annual day trip for Young Careers who take responsibility of family member.

  COMMUNITY TROPHY            An annual awad to the company contributing to the towns enviroment.

  STUDENT OF THE YEAR        Awarded for their concern for the welfare of others.

  FOCUS ON A CROCUS           A Rotary International ideal to eradicate worldwide Polio.

  MOUNTAIN RESCUE              Annual donation in support of this important Oldham asset.

  Dr KERSHAW'S                      Annual donation towards the upkeep of this much valued service.

And these are just a sample, over the past 15 years the Oldham Rotary Club, with the help of the public has made donations and funding in the region of £150,000. 

The Rotary motto Service Above Self typifies the outlook of those calling themselves ROTARIANS.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Whilst working together serving others Rotarians also enjoy great fun, great fellowship and family get togethers, here are just a few:-
