12 July 2013 - Fellowship Cruise weekend

Fri, Jul 12th 2013 at 12:00 am- Sat, Jul 13th 2013 - 12:00 am

Members and partners enjoyed an evening cruise on the Maid of the Forth with a folk band providing the entertainment followed by an overnight stay at the Elgin Hotel in Charlestown.

On Friday 12th July 2013 members of the Club and their partners converged on the Elgin Hotel at Charlestown, on the Firth of Forth. It was mid-afternoon and the sun was shining so we were able to sit out on the lawn enjoying a cool drink and a view over the Forth to the bridges.

At about 5.00 we enjoyed a light tea prepared by the hotel giving us plenty of time to get ready for the taxis to take us to South Queensferry to catch the 8.00 sailing of the Maid of the Forth.

The boat set off bang on time and soon we were sailing under the Forth Rail Bridge, what a magnificent sight, then off to Battleship Island where we saw seals and a few puffins, then off down to Leith where we saw the waterfront and Britannia, all with the Folk band trio playing in the background.

The BBQ of steak and salad was served now and we all changed to red wine (the white was the only let down of the night ) then back to Inchcolm Island where the boat dropped off one of the passengers who was the warden.   Quite spooky to come in to berth at dusk, let a man off and leave him there!

We then sailed back under the bridge which was now illuminated and into the harbour where we had a long walk up the pier as the tide had gone out while we were away.

The taxis were waiting and we were soon back at the hotel where we de briefed in the bar for a wee while before the end of a very pleasant outing.
