Our members visited several fellow Rotary Clubs in District 1020

Monday 20 May. Report by Derek Thomson

Six members, led by Lindsay Craig, attended the meeting of the Rotary Club of Loanhead & Roslin held in the Original Hotel, Roslin.

It is a small but active club and we were made very welcome by President Elect Alex.

The guest speaker talked about the ongoing development of a local community garden in the grounds of Midlothian Community Hospital - a very interesting presentation.

Monday 20 May. Report by Rodger Thom

Three members - Rodger Thom, Peter MacGavigan and Hendrick Nahler - visited the Rotary Club of Bathgate on Monday 20 May. We were warmly welcomed and given good hospitality.

The talk was a bit parochial as it was about the problems Bathgate is having due to the need of regeneration. It was interesting to hear at first hand what plans were afoot to address this problem.

Greetings were extended from our President and were reciprocated. It was also noted that Hendrick had just become a member of our Club that day!

Wednesday 22 May. Report by John Wilson

Jim Douglas, Fraser Marshall and myself went to the Rotary Club of Polmont, where I was able to catch up on news from the District Assembly from my fellow District Officer, Ian Mclean.

We had a friendly reception from President Susan and the members. We heard about some of their projects - they have just inaugurated a third RotaKids Club.

There was an enthusiastic speaker from the Stroke Association who made us aware of the risks and how to deal with Stroke, this followed by lively questions and discussion.

Wednesday 22 May. Report by Walter Hallyburton

Walter Hallyburton, accompanied by Ian Clarkson, Andrew & Pearl Clark and John Sellars, visited the Rotary Club of Braids which meets at the Tusitala Pavilion in Buckstone Terrace.

President Jim Lennox was not attending so Alec Justice was in the chair. Alec is an ex-colleague of Walter from forty years ago.

Braids are a very successful Club with fifty-four members and another four 'in the pipeline'. Representatives from our Club were looking forward to meeting some of them at Tanners in Juniper Green at the conclusion of their big charity walk on Saturday.

Thursday 23 May. Report by Derek Thomson

Eight members, led by myself, attended the Rotary Club of South Queensferry at the Hawes Inn.

Although the meal was a little late due to the restaurant being very busy it was a very good meal. However, due to the numbers attending, we had to use various alcoves and many of us could not see or hear President Liz.

White and red wine was served as one member had donated the wine to celebrate the birth of a grand-child.

At 8.45 we moved to a small room where a new member, a retired teacher, gave us a interesting talk on her career. We left the Hawes Inn at 9.30 after a long but very enjoyable evening.
