Community Emergency Support

Community Emergency Support - formerly Rotary Resilience.

The Rotary Club of Luton Someries is a good supporter of Rotary CES which was formerly known as Rotary Resilience.

We work alongside the local authority to provide manpower in Assistance Centres in times when local residents are displaced from their home.

It does not cost a Rotarian anything - just time when we have to man an Assistance Centre.  There is training for those who wish to attend training.  It takes place on the second Tuesday of each month and is normally held at Central Bedfordshire Council's offices in Chicksands.

We now have Rotarians who are trained in Assistance Centre documentation, Assistance Centre Welfare, Assistance Centre Facilities, Police Casualty Bureau and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) decontamination.

Assistance Centres are those buildings that are used to feed and rest members of the public who have been evacuated from their homes due to an emergency.

The Police Casualty Bureau is manned by volunteers.  It is the placw you are calling when you call the number on your TV screen after there has been a major accident or terrorist attack.

The CRBN decontamination unit is manned by the Ambulance service under normal circumstances, but when there is a lage number of people who need to be decontaminated, trained volunteers are needed.

CES is pure 'Service Above Self' and I encourage ALL Rotarians to volunteer.  You never know it could be you who needs help one day - as I found out myself in Christchurch NZ in February 2011.

Please volunteer NOW! steve@doublestravel.co.uk
