Burns Night Dinner

The fifth Wednesday  meeting was held at the Gimsby Golf Club and was to celebrate Robert Burns.

Guests were welcomed by a Highland piper and the master of ceremonies was Rotarian  Ian Birrell resplendent in his highland dress of the  Blackwatch tartan

The haggis was piped into the dining room and was paraded around the tables followed by Ian with two bottles of Whisky.Ian gave the traditional Burns address to the haggis before ceremonially cutting it. He poured several drams of whisky, one was given to the piper, and the other to the chef.

The haggis was served on a bed of mashed potato and turnip. Guests were encouraged to pour their dram of whisky over the haggis before eating. It was delicious.

The second course was beef stew followed by cheese and biscuits or another desert.

Ian gave and address on Robert Burns,his life on the farm,poet,as a womaniser and read samples of his verse.He died aged 37.
