John's ideas for his year as President.
On the 4th March 1841, a cold and wet day in Washington with the wind lashing the east coast of America, William Henry Harrison took the oath of office to become the 9th President of the United States of America. On that day, he wore neither a coat nor a hat; he rode on horseback to the ceremony rather than in the enclosed carriage offered to him. His inaugural address took nearly two hours to read, the longest inaugural presidential address in American History. Harrison died on his 32nd day in office of complications from pneumonia, thus serving the shortest tenure in United States presidential history.
I have to tell you now, that I do not intend to talk for anywhere near two hours, I do not have pneumonia, or a cold, or a sore throat and I certainly do intend to survive my year as President.
