Chief Superintendent Kate Thomson is the new Divisional Commander within the reorganised Police Scotland.


Having such an early opportunity to hear about the new system from our most senior officer was a great coup for Thornhill & District Rotary.

The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District recently welcomed recently appointed Chief Superintendent Kate Thomson as guest speaker of Rotarian Brian Hunter. Kate is Local Police Commander for Dumfries and Galloway. In her address to the club Kate reassured Rotarians that the newly formed Police Scotland would not have a significant effect on day-to-day policing in the towns and villages of the region. Dumfries and Galloway would however benefit greatly from having ready access to specialised services which can only be offered nationally. She acknowledged that sadly there would be casualties as a result of the merger and in particular amongst administrative support where services had been combined to avoid duplication of provision.
