Community Events

With the Jubilee and the London Olympics, 2012 was a bumper year for Community Events!  Great fun was had by all joining in the special events as well as running our regular activities. We enjoy good support from the community and supporting local good causes is important to us.

Community Shop

Santa was really busy in December appearing in the town centre and Stratton Audley. See story and pictures

Regular donations of tinned goods are made to the Bicester Foodbank and a Pub Crawl was organised to raise funds for a special Christmas Day Lunch.

Christmas gifts are given to children, chosen by the schools, who might be missing out.

We were pleased to support the Bicester Jubilee organising committee. To promote all the activities taking place, Her Majesty appeared in the Community Shop. She made an appearance at Bardwell's Jubilee Tea party, braved the rain when we helped Round Table at the Fireworks Concert, got soaked at the Big Lunch and recovered in time for the Carnival. Despite the rain, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend!

Well ahead of the game, Bicester Rotary joined with local traders to develop Pop-up Shops to combat the recession and keep the town centre looking lively.

During our 9 month tenure of the Community Shop, we co-ordinated displays and all manner of activities with other local organisations. These included a book signing by Brookside School, Santa's Grotto and Christmas crafts, an art exhibition and Bomber Command's campaign to create a Heritage site at the former RAF Bicester. Know your Blood Pressure

Crocus Planting for Polio

It is always fun being part of this great summer event organised by Bicester Town Council! Our unique 'dry land' Duck Race is a popular attraction and visitors can also find out more about what Rotary does, such as the Youth Competitions or providing disaster relief through Shelterbox Every April we support the Stroke Association's Know Your Blood Pressure campaign. Setting up our stalls in the town centre's Sheep Street and at Wyevale Garden Centre at Bicester Avenue, shoppers are offered free blood pressure testing and expert advice from qualified medical practitioners. Some events are 'one offs' like the occasion when we enlisted the help of other community organisations to enhance our local environment on the Floral Path between the Town and Bicester Village and raise awareness of Rotary's campaign to End Polio Now.
