Why Rotary

Why Rotary?

We're for Communities

Rotary is a worldwide network of inspired men and women who translate their passions into relevant social causes, to change lives in communities.

Made up of over 1.2 million Rotary members - known as Rotarians - in 34,000 Rotary clubs in 200 countries and geographical areas around the world, Rotary International forms a global network of business, professional and community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve communities locally and around the world - and form strong, lasting friendships in the process.

Rotary clubs, like the Rotary Club of Perth, are based within local communities, with their members meeting on a regular basis to enjoy friendship, networking, and to plan projects that will benefit the lives of others.

Rotary clubs depend on the skills, expertise and dedication of their members, who work hard to change the lives of people in communities both at home and abroad.

The Rotary Club of Perth supports the community in many ways. In August, we hold our Annual Charity Fayre where we provide stalls for charities to promote their causes free of charge. We hold our Charity Golf Day at the King James VI in May and our major fund raising events are the Silent Auction towards the end of the year and the Perthshire Classic Car Tour in April. Funds raised from these events allow us to support many local charities with limited access to funds as well as major charities such as MacMillan Cornhill Hospice, My Name’5 Doddie, Alzheimer Scotland, Carers Scotland, the Archie Foundation and Kinfauns RDA. Apart from fund raising, we actively support communities such as building a sensory garden at Fairview School and maintaining the Autism Garden or Korean Veterans Memorial Garden. However, it's not all work and no play. We have active sports sections and several social events during the year.

The Rotary Club of Perth is active in several international projects working with the overseas local Rotary Club.

We have links with India for a project supporting children from the red light area in Pune.  We support two students in their full time education and living expenses in Kenya.

We participate annually in the Shoebox scheme which provides disadvantaged children and families in Eastern Europe with gifts for Christmas.

We are happy to continue the exchange agreement with Aschaffenburg in Germany which has been in place with the now closed St. John’s Rotary Club for many years.

If you would like to join the Rotary family, volunteer your time to a community project or make a donation, register your interest and your local club will contact you with details of how you can help.
