Having been holders of the 1090 District Darts trophy for the previous two years, last year's defeat at the hands of Gerrards Cross & Chalfont St Peter came as a rude shock. Our defeated team was entered into an in-house eliminator to play for their places as our entry for the Rotary year 2012-2013. Despite some narrow squeaks our team of Gur Reehal, Terry Ruby, Mike Udall and John Greening emrged to fight another year.
Or first match of the new season saw us matched with RC Pinner. Played in great spirit the match result was never in doubt with Elthorne Hillingdon emerging victorious by a 5-0 margin ( we didn't actually concede a single leg!).
Against RC Gerrards Cross & Chalfont St Peter "B" on Tuesday 21st November we triumphed 4-1, which took us through to Round 2, where we were due to meet RC Maidenhead "A" on Tuesday 5th February. Unfortunately, on the day Maidenhead were unable to raise a team and elected to forfeit the match. We march on to Round 3!!
Now for Round 3, aka Quarter Finals! Thursday 11th saw the team out at Stoke Poges to meet distant travellers RC Hungerford. A comprehensive win ensued, although things didn't look too bright after the first leg, which Gur & John contrived to lose by not getting a double having been miles ahead! Sanity was restored however and that match-up was retrieved, followed by comprehensive wins for Terry & Mike, and then John & Gur against the Hungerford second pair of which the scoring of one of their members is probably best not dwelt on - suffice to say there were a number of sets of three darts when the board wasn't troubled although the scorer was in fear! 3-0 up at that point the team conceded a consolation leg for Hungerford but came roaring back to win the eight man 1001 final leg at a canter with Gur finishing off from 64 with two double 16's. Great conviviality throughout the evening -we march on to the semis!
