Newspaper report-- An inscribed memorial carved from local stone was be presented by the Priestley Society and the Rotary Club of Birstall Luddites to celebrate Birstall as the birthplace of Priestley. A play specially written for the occasion was be performed by pupils from Priestley's old school Batley Grammar School. Scientist and TV presenter Adam Hart-Davis was guest of honour at a special event to mark the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the statue of Joseph Priestley in Birstall. |
