Special Honour presented to founding member

The Rotary Club of Hallstead recently paid tribute to its only surviving founder member by making him an Honorary Rotarian and a member of the club.

On the 13th September, Leonard Fitch Ratcliff attended the club as a special guest speaker. A club for which he was one of the founding members back on the on the 27th September 1948. Leonard has given much to the service of his country and remains a revered and extremely well respected member of the Halstead community.

Leonard, as many of you will know, was a distinguished RAF officer during WWII culminating as Flight Commander 161 (Special Duties) Squadron ferrying special agents to and from behind enemy lines. He flew undercover missions throughout occupied Europe, including Norway, Holland, Denmark, Germany and Poland. Leonard was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, two Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Air Force Cross; he also received France
