Rotary At Sanquhar Day Of The Region

Fri, Oct 5th 2012 at 12:00 am- Sun, Oct 7th 2012 - 12:00 am

Thornhill & District Rotary attended Sanquhar's Day of the Region. Great fun was had by large crowds.

Sanquhar's first participation in the Day of the Region was a great success with hundreds of local folk showing interest in all the events over the weekend.

Rotary had a stand in the Town Hall where numerous organisations and groups had displays to tempt people to participate in everything from Curling to Sanquhar Knitting, Religion to Brighten Up Sanquhar.

The Curling Club exhibited their 1770's first minute book - They can certainly teach Rotary a thing or two about keeping records. It has immaculate copper plate recording.

Billy the Fire Dog who sniffs out accelerants in suspicious fires gave displays of his incredible skill. Wearing his special flame proof boots he was such a beautiful dog that he had us all watching his every boisterous move and maybe we forgot why he is so unique in Scotland. Helping catch fireraisers is only part of his job and his handler stressed that Billy actually does more good with educating children.
