RYLA Weekend May 2012

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)

White Hall Centre, nr Buxton, May 11-13 2012.

Four teenagers, from the Manchester Academy, Whalley Range High School and North Manchester High School for Girls, in May took part  in a Rotary Youth Leadership Award Programme (RYLA). This challenging weekend outdoor programme takes place at White Hall, the Derbyshire Education Authority Outdoor Centre in the Goyt Valley.

In all 30 young people from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Manchester faced a range of physical activities including canoeing, rock climbing, caving and an assault course The programme, by organising the participants in groups, instils a competitive edge into all the activities. This encourages team bonding and the mutual support needed for success to be acheived. For most participants these challenges were first time experiences.  At each activity there were new fears to conquer with each individual giving and receiving encouragement to their colleagues.

The four Manchester students were sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Chorlton & District, and Manchester Breakfast.

Both Clubs have identified more young people who would like to benefit from the programme.  We would welcome assistance from organisations or individuals who might like to share in future sponsorship. Contact us to help or for more information about RYLA and its benefits
